Haiti - Justice : Dominican interceptions at sea (2013)

At the time of balance sheets, the Dominican Navy reported that in 2013, as part of Operation "Costas Sur" implemented since August 2012, that it had arrested 2,619 people while trying to get illegally in the territory of Puerto Rico including : 1,438 Haitians, 1,059 Dominicans, 115 Cubans and 7 Brazilians.

These operations who intervened in Miches, Nagua, Boca de Yuma, Puerto Plata, Sabana de la Mar, Cumayasa, La Romana, Samana, San Pedro de Macoris and Higuey led to the arrest of 74 captains and organizers linked to these illegal travel and seizure of 169 vessels whose 135 of clandestine manufacturing, which were destroyed.

In addition during 2013, the Dominican army jointly with the Ministry of Environment and the Directorate General of Immigration apprehended 312 Haitians and 48 Dominicans and seized 47 vessels, equipment and nets intended for illegal trawl fishing, in the waters of the cities of Manzanillo, Los Cayos, Isla Beata, Cabo Rojo near the maritime border with the Republic of Haiti.
