Haiti - Environment : Towards the recycling of non-degradable products 16/01/2014 10:29:35
Yesterday Wednesday, the Prime Minister, Laurent Lamothe, met with private sector entrepreneurs and government actors engaged in sanitation, environment and collection of solid waste. The objective of this meeting was, among others, to inquire about the status of some important issues including those related to non-biodegradable products and recycling of plastic bags. Representatives of private companies operating in the production and marketing of drinking water and soft drinks, as well as companies interested in recycling waste, actively participated in these discussions. It was for the Prime Minister to find clear answers from stakeholders to put an end to the abusive use of polystyrene products that pollute the environment. This approach falls under the strict application of the Order passed in Council of Ministers in its meeting on 10 July 2013, at National Palace to ban products made from polyethylene or polystyrene https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-6395-haiti-environment-measures-of-protection-for-the-environment.html https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-8995-haiti-notice-ban-on-plastic-bags-and-styrofoam.html . Formal instructions are passed to the relevant authorities to implement scrupulously the measures adopted by the Authority and the Government Martelly Lamothe, prohibiting the production, import, marketing and use of packaging and non-degradable plastic bags. The Government has initiated a number of measures to support the efforts of recycling and processing of non-degradable products in order to create new direct jobs for the benefit of the population.
