Haiti - Social : Towards a national strategy to fight against extreme poverty

Marie Carmèle Rose-Anne Auguste, the Delegate Minister to the Prime Minister, in charge of human rights and the fight against extreme poverty, has announced the development of the national strategy to fight against extreme poverty, to which the Government is striving since October 2013. This plan is consistent with the vision of the Head of State to guarantee the social rights of the population

This National Strategy is the result of efforts to maintain cohesion in government action. It participates in the common social vision of President Martelly and Prime Minister Lamothe that make the fight against poverty and social inclusion, a real struggle. In this sense, the preferential option for the poor, advocated by the Head of Government is based on the respect and dignity of the Haitian people.

"The Government is also working to strengthen and systematize the social protection program Ede Pèp through literacy, basic social services, free education, decent housing and the establishment of community restaurants inprecarious neighborhoods," stressed the Delegate Minister.

Recalling that "initiatives to fight against extreme poverty are realized through the implementation of national social protection program Ede Pèp, who has more than 2 million beneficiaries."

According to the map data produced by the National Geospatial Information Centre, the sub-program "Cash Transfer" and "Ti manman Cheri" is present since its launch in 95 communes of the country, benefiting 113.205 mothers in 10 departments.
