Haiti - Social : Warning against the use of women's bodies in the Carnival...

Monday, Yanick Mezile, Minister for the Status and Rights of Women and Josette Darguste, the acting Minister of Culture launched a warning to the Carnival music group, using women's bodies scantily dressed on floats and in music videos where these women practice the twerking, an erotic dance, born of hip-hop culture of the 1990s, adopted by the music scenes of New Orleans, and then popularized in striptease clubs in Houston and Atlanta before spreading around the world.

Josette Darguste, which recognizes the living conditions vulnerable of some of these young girls, is convinced that this practice projects a bad image of Haiti saying "This style of dance is not part of our culture." For its part, Yanick Mezile stated that before this practice in strong growth, his ministry and that of the Ministry of Culture, would work with the Ministry of Justice to provide sanctions against all those that would encourage this kind of dance.

She also invited the musicians, "DJ" and producers to "take advantage of the carnival period to value women instead of degrading convey degrading messages," also inviting women to be more vigilant during this festivity.
