Haiti - Security : Bilateral agreement to combat trafficking at the border

As part of the second binational high-level meeting held on Monday, February 3 at Jimani, Godson Orélus, the Director General of the National Police of Haiti and Major General Julio Cesar Souffront Velasquez, President of the National Drug Control Directorate of the Dominican Republic (DNCD), spoke about the consequences of drug trafficking and offenses related to this activity that threatens the well-being of the people of both countries.

In a framework agreement, both parties agreed to the safety and economic interests of the two countries to combine their efforts to deter and reduce traffic along the border between the two republics, through continuous exchange of information, training and appropriate training of the security forces.

They also agreed to institutionalize their cooperation by signing a cooperation agreement whose the competent enforcement authorities are to Haiti, the Office for the Fight against Trafficking in Drugs (BLTS) and DNCD for the Dominican Republic.

Under this agreement, an officer attached in the embassies and institutions, that concern the two countries will be designated in accordance with national legislation and international conventions, in order to guarantee and channel the exchange of useful information to prevent and combat this scourge and money laundering.
