Haiti - Health : National deworming campaign in schools

As part of the public health policy of the Government, in order to accompany parents in the care of their child, the Ministry of Public Health and Population (MSPP) launched last week, the national deworming campaign for schoolchildren in the presence of representatives of partner institutions including the World Food Programme (WFP), the Ministry of National Education and the Foundation for Development and the Framework of the Haitian Family (FONDEFH).

This campaign aims about 700,000 students who benefit of school feeding program supported by WFP "This is an opportunity for the Haitian government to ensure that the students receive health care at their school. We encourage parents and teachers to get involved in the realization of this campaign," declared Dr. Marie Guirlène Raymond Charité, General Director of MSPP.

This project, which will begin in March 2014, also aims nutritional awareness among students and teachers of 2,000 schools to strengthen and promote good eating habits, nutrition and health.

The launch of this campaign was also an opportunity for Janne Suvanto, Deputy Representative of WFP to renew the commitment of the institution to work with partners to make this de-worming campaign a success.

Besides tablets against parasites, a vitamin nutritional supplement will be distributed to improve the overall health of students.
