Haiti - Technology : The Metro Cable, a project of approximately $200M

The project of Metro Cable of Port-au-Prince, presented Thursday, March 13 at the Ministry of Economy and Finance by POMA Company, a global leader in the transport by cable https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-10729-haiti-technology-presentation-of-project-metrocable-of-port-au-prince.html was well received by the Government Martelly-Lamothe.

This project estimated at about 200 million U.S. dollars, after a pre-feasibility study [excluding property aspects], provides the deployment of an urban transport network by cable into 5 phases, totaling to his term, nearly 30 km network, which should according to the estimations, allow to carry nearly 100,000 passengers a day, at about 14 hours of daily operation. This budget includes the construction of a 5.5 megawatt power plant exclusively dedicated to power the urban Metro Cable.

According to Philippe P. Olivier, CEO of the company "ONE SA", of the Acra Group, the exclusive representative of POMA group in Haiti, the research of funding ahead positively. The project has already attracted interest from donors and international financiers, who have expressed interest to contribute, for now, to the tune of $120 million. Note that this project will not be funded from the Petrocaribe funds.

The public transport system Metro Cable: infrastructure, land and all related devices will remain the property of the Haitian state, however, the operation of the network will be given in concession to a private company, under the original terms of the project partnership .

For the next step, the Government should proceed with the engagement of an international engineering firm who will be responsible to carry out a thorough study of technical feasibility.

The first phase (two remote stations approximately 1.5 km) is estimated at $ 40 million and should be completed on 14 months from the start of works.
