On Monday, the Marine Unit of the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force intercepted off the coast of the archipelago, an overloaded sailing boat aboard which were 84 illegal Haitian migrants informed Don Hue Gardner, the Minister of Borders. The boat was towed to the island of Providenciales.

The Minister indicated in a note that the illegal migrants, 69 men and 15 women, have been transferred to a detention center before being returned to Haiti.

The archipelago of Turks and Caicos, which is located between Haiti and the Bahamas has long been a preferred destination for Haitian migrants.
