Haiti - Politic : Minimum Wage, CSS work is just beginning

Tuesdays in press conference, following the Presidential Decree dated 16 April 2014, readjusting the minimum wage from 1 May 2014, https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-10972-haiti-economy-everything-you-need-to-know-about-the-new-minimum-wage.html the Superior Council of Wages (CSS), said that by this gesture, the Executive, was supportive of the cause of the different layers of the working class in Haiti. According to the social legislation and international standards of the ILO which Haiti is a member since 1919.

In addition, the CSS members have wished to clarify, that with the Presidential Order, the work of CSS was just beginning, because its members must consider another aspect, namely the piecework. Then in June, they will have to produce their report on the setting of wages in Haiti in accordance with regulations of the act of September 2009 "According to the legal framework, it is expected that the minimum wage will be adjusted periodically based on changes in the cost of living or every time the official inflation index set by the Haitian Institute of Statistics and Informatics (IHSI) shows an increase of 10% over a period of a fiscal year," noted Daniel Altiné, member of CSS.
