Haiti - Politic : Fruitful participation of President Martelly at 6th ACS Summit

Wednesday, President Michel Martelly, accompanied, among others of Duly Brutus the Minister of Foreign Affairs, participated in Merida, Mexico, on the 6th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Association of Caribbean States (AEC). On this occasion, the Head of State has made three proposals: the creation of a mechanism of troika within the Organization on the hot topics in the world; strengthening synergies with other regional integration and increase the budget of the Organization.

Alfonso Munera, the Secretary General of the ACS, congratulated the President Martelly for his brilliant speech in which he summarized the different actions performed by his Administration.

For his part, the President of Mexico, Enrique Peña Nieto, who plans to visit Haiti in September, applauded the efforts of the Martelly Administration and renewed its support in several areas of development including geospatial initiative against the risk of of major natural hazards, the modernization of the port of Port-au-Prince. The Mexican President has also expressed its willingness to allow the Haitian authorities to buy Mexican petroleum products at preferential prices.

Moreover, the reactivation of the agreement with FONATUR (Fondo Nacional de Fomento del Turismo) and Anahuac University of Mexico https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-10470-haiti-mexico-signing-of-an-agreement-of-academic-cooperation-scientific-and-technological.html , two cooperation agreements in the field of tourism, were also on the agenda of discussions.

On the sidelines of the Summit, the President Martelly met with the Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, who reiterated his support for the upcoming elections.

With the Minister of Overseas France, Mrs. George Pau-Langevin, Michel Martelly discussed several issues relating to the rule of law, education in particular the question of the formation of the "Maitres". According to Mrs. Pau-Langevin, France, is willing to provide assistance to the University of Limonade and Lycée des Coteaux.
