Haiti - FLASH : Road Tragedy, 23 victims, 17 injured...
Saturday afternoon in the town of Roseaux (Southwest of Haiti), an overloaded truck carrying fifty small merchants piled in the middle of the goods, who traveled to the small town of Anse d'Hainault, overturned, causing 23 casualties and 17 injured, several seriously (according to the provisional balance sheet Saturday evening).
"We have recovered 17 bodies on the spot, mong the wounded, 6 died during transport to the hospital of Jérémie," indicated Dr. Dady Montiner, Director of the Health Department in the region "We collected about twenty wounded including a dozen with serious fractures. We do not have specialists to treat these fractures, we do not have the equipment [...] Some have to be transported to another hospital in emergency [in Les Cayes] located sixty kilometers..."
The cause of the accident is not yet known indicated Ronald Etienne, Mayor of Jérémie.
