Haiti - Social : The Government decreed 3 days of national mourning 02/07/2014 11:32:43
Following the visit Monday, of the presidential couple at the residence of Manigat, Lucien Jura, the Spokesman of the Presidency, announced Tuesday that the government had decreed that thestate funeral of former President of Haiti, Leslie F. Manigat (died June 27, 2014) will result in 3 days of mourning. In this decree dated June 30, bearing the signatures of the President Martelly, of Prime Minister Lamothe and government ministers it is indicated : "[...] Considering that Professor Leslie François Saint-Roc Manigat, a former president of the Republic, has long contributed to the formation of several generations of Haitians and foreigners and to the enhancement of national pride; Considering the need for the national community to render a well deserved tribute to this great intellectual whose fate and thought have been devoted to the training of son and daughters of the land [...] Are declared according to Article 1 of the decree, days of national mourning the Thursday 3 Friday 4 and Saturday, July 4, 2014, in tribute to President Président Leslie François Saint-Roc Manigat [...] During the three days of mourning, the national flag will be at half-mast and radio and television are invited to schedule programs and special music," Saturday, July 5, the official funeral will be held at the Frères de St Louis de Gonzague in Delmas 31-33 (where the former President made a classical education before continuing university studies abroad); The body of the late President, will be exposed from 7:00 am to funeral greetings; From 9:30 am funeral orations will begin at 10:00 am the ceremony freligieuse; After the ceremonies, the remains of the former head of state will be buried in the cemetery of Parc du Souvenir. National Television of Haiti (TNH) will broadcast the ceremony live. According to members of the "Rally of Progressive National Democrats" (RDNP), from this Wednesday, July 2, a register will be open to the party office, located in Delmas 49 to collect messages of sympathy and Friday a patriotic vigil will be held at office of RDNP to "National Institute of Administration, Management and International Studies' (INAGHEI) in provincial towns and in the diaspora.
