Haiti - Elections : Mission OAS/CARICOM in province

The Joint Electoral Observation Mission of the Organization of American States (OAS) and Caribbean Community (CARICOM), led by Ambassador Colin Granderson, informs that it has begun to deploy its observers in the departments of Haiti .

Mission on the ground is currently composed of 16 members, and doubling its workforce from the start of the campaign on September 27. The first observers will be present in the Municipal Electoral Offices in the draw members of the polling stations and during the last phase of the verification exercise of the electoral roll to be held in the departments of the West, South East and Nippes.

The first observers will be present in the Communal Electoral Offices during the lottery of the members of the polling stations and at the time of the last phase of the verification operation of the electoral register which will be held in the departments of the Ouest, Sud-Est and the Nippes.

"The political parties have a big role to play in the member nomination of the polling stations since it is them which provide the lists of the people who will fulfill the functions the day of the vote, and these are the lists which will be useful for the lottery" recalls the spokesperson of the Mission OAS / CARICOM.

The members of the Mission also will meet with the electoral authorities in the departments, the candidates at the legislative elections, and with all actors involved in the electoral process in the provinces.
