Haiti - Politic : The Government support the candidacy of Michaëlle Jean as head of the OIF

The Government announced that it supports the candidacy of Michaëlle Jean, the UNESCO Special Envoy for Haiti and former Governor General of Canada, as Secretary General of the International Francophone Organisation (OIF) currently occupied by Senegal's Abdou Diouf.

Recall that Michaëlle Jean (55) embarked on the race to succeed Abdou Diouf in June, after the candidacy in May of Jean-Claude de l'Estrac (66), former Foreign Minister of Mauritius. A third candidate, former President of Mali, Traore (77) was officially sent to the OIF headquarters in Paris on July 31.

President Martelly and Prime Minister Lamothe, intend to implement an entire diplomatic strategy to promote the campaign of candidature of Ms. Jean and her election to this prestigious position at the next summit of the organization, to be held in Dakar on 28 and 29 November.

"It is an honor for our country and for the Government that this daughter of Haiti represents us as well as the 77 member countries. Haiti has always occupied a central place in the minds of Michaëlle Jean," stated the Prime Minister Lamothe, recalling that Ms. Jean and the Government want to maintain and reinforce the fundamentals principles of the Francophonie that are : democracy, human rights, good governance and the French language.

Note that the IOF beyond a tool for promoting the French language, is also a space of human development, openness and commercial trade.
