Haiti - Social : The CAS offers 600 free hot meals every day

At the initiative of Charles Jean Jacques, the Minister of Social Affairs and Labour, Ledor Louis the Director of Social Assistance Fund (Caisse d'Assistance Sociale - CAS), conducted this week at the launch of a new welfare program designed to provide daily and for free 600 hot meals to its beneficiaries.

"The 8,000 disabled and 2,000 elders who are regularly enrolled in this program are served in high priority," indicated Ledor Louis, adding that the number of dishes may increase depending on the volume of beneficiaries who come every day, pointing out that "Unlike community restaurants where hot food is paid 10 gourdes, to the CAS, it is served for free. The purpose is to accompany at the best the Programme beneficiaries in these difficult times of the new school year, which is one of the main priorities of the government," stating that the meals are served in biodegradable plates to protect the environment.

The Director of the CAS also mentioned the perspectives of implementation of a system of vouchers allowing beneficiaries to obtain basic necessities products, announcing that "The 'reframing' of communal asylums and institutions philanthropic under the MAST, is also part of future interventions of the CAS."
