This Tuesday afternoon, a traffic accident killed 23 [rectification of the DPC who had announced 24] (5 young girls, youth and adults) people and wounded 37 at the foot of Morne Tapion, Petit-Goâve National Road #2, informs the Directorate of Civil Protection (DPC).

According to our information this is a truck that would have overturned into a ravine.

The truck in question assured the route Jérémie - Port-au-Prince.

Officers from the PNH and the Minustah are on the ground.

As soon as they were informed of the accident, the peacekeepers of the Sri Lankan contingent dispatched troops and resources to the scene of the accident (50 soldiers, 1 ambulance, 3 vehicles of towing and extrication) to provide relief to victims and assistance to the efforts of local governments, health institutions of the region and the people. UNPOL has also provided support to the PNH in the protection of rescue teams, the road users and restoration of traffic.

Several injured were taken to hospital Our Lady of Petit-Goâve. At the Hospital of the city, very poorly equipped, services were overwhelmed by the influx of victims, some of whom were transferred by ambulances to other health centers. 2 serious injured were airlifted for treatment to the hospital Bernard Mevs, 20 were taken to the hospital of Doctors Without Borders, the hospital of Carrefour also received injuries.
