Haiti - Security : Petit-Goâve in chaos, fear a bloodbath

Blocked roads, burning tires, barricades, official vehicle burned, closed schools and paralyzed economy, violent clashes between the neighborhoods... residents of Petit-Goâve call police force to assume their responsibilities and to restore security to prevent a bloodbath.

Wednesday for the 12th day, opposition members began by blocking the national road by erecting barricades and burning tires.

An official car, Nissan Patrol, from Port-au-Prince who was going in the south having on board a Director of EDH and a motorcycle were intercepted and burned by opposition supporters on National Road #2, bloc André Dicette, a zone become inaccessible when barricades and burning tires were erected yesterday.

The occupants of the vehicle had to find refuge in the sub-police station of Petit-Goâve located in Borne Soldat, before finally returning to Grand-Goâve, because they do not feel safe, even in the company of police officers...

In addition, a police delegation that went to the South of the country to attend a ceremony was forced to quickly enter the central police station in order to get help... before heading back to their destination.

Throughout the morning of Wednesday, the opposition supporters protested in various locations to demand the departure of Ms. Sandra Jules. Schools remained closed and economic activities were slowed down considerably due to strong tensions in the city.

It was only until noon that the police joined the demonstration.

The situation was chaotic in different areas considered as opposition strongholds such as streets Benoit, Béatrice, La Digue, André Dicette where violent clashes opposed the inhabitants of these areas to law enforcement...

Agents of the Body Intervention and Maintenance of Order (CIMO) and the Departmental Unit Maintenance of Order (UDMO) came in reinforcement in Petit-Goâve to restore calm. They removed the car wrecks and barricades under stone-throwing to André Dicette, the opposition stronghold. Specialised units have fired tear gas in abundance in Benoît Street, André Dicette, 11th section, Jubilé to disperse the crowd.
