Friday, President Michel Martelly, accompanied by the Prime Minister, Laurent Lamothe, laid a wreath of flowers at the monument erected in memory of the Emperor Jean-Jacques Dessalines at Pont Rouge (North entrance of the capital), where was assassinated the founder of the Nation, October 17, 1806.

The ceremony took place in the presence, among others : of Cabinet Ministers and executives of the public administration, Me Anel Alexis Joseph, President of the Court of Cassation, of Simon Dieuseul Desras, the President of the Senate, of Deputy Jacques Stevenson Thimoléon, the President of the Chamber of Deputies, the Chief Executive and members of the command of the National Police of Haiti (PNH).

The Head of State took advantage of this moment to reflect and remember the vital role played by the Emperor Jean-Jacques Dessalines in the struggle for our independence.

Subsequently, as part of the commemoration of the 208th anniversary of the death of the Emperor, the President Martelly, at the head of a ministerial delegation went to the piste of aviation, where he received a warm welcome, to officially launch the celebration of "The life of the Emperor Jean-Jacques Dessalines".

In the presence of a large crowd came to honor the memory of the Founding Father of our country, the Head of State recalled the ideal Dessalinien focused on unity, union, brotherhood, love of country and the work.

After a brief history of the life of the Emperor by Monique Rosann, the Minister of Culture, the President of the Republic, accompanied by the Prime Minister and several cabinet ministers, handed out gifts to the crowd just before starting the festivities. Several musical groups (ANBYANS Tèt Dwat, Djakout#1, T-Vice, T-Micky, K-Zino, Rockfam) provided musical entertainment continues to celebrate this important date in the history of Haiti.

He also reiterated the need to establish a climate of socio-political stability in order to continue lead the country on the path of development and modernity.
