Haiti - Reconstruction : Special meeting of the IHRC in New York

Former President Clinton presided a special meeting of the Interim Haiti Recovery Commission (IHRC) in New York, with the Prime Minister of Haiti, Jean-Max Bellerive. At this meeting was present the Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton and a dozen foreign ministers from various countries including France, Spain and Argentina.

The meeting examined the process of reconstruction, the approach of the next elections and the renewal of the mandate of the Mission of the United Nations for stabilization in Haiti (Minustah).

At this meeting IHRC , some countries like the United States and France has pledged 25 million dollars, respectively, to help build a hospital in Port-au-Prince.

The Spanish Foreign Minister Miguel Angel Moratinos, has announced 45 million euros (58.5 million) for the sewerage system of Port-au-Prince.

Spanish diplomatic sources have also noted that U.S. authorities had responded positively to the Bill Clinton request for support to the private sector. As part of the appeal Spain confirmed its participation up to 50 million euros (65 million) to a development funds of the private sector of the Inter-American Development Bank (IADB) for Haiti.

All the amounts assigned at this meeting to specific projects belong to the engagement of Spain taken on March 31st.
