Haiti - Naturalisation : The Dominican Government, extends by 90 days the registration deadline

Following the request of various national institutions and of Haitian Chancellor Duly Brutus last Tuesday, https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-12316-haiti-politic-toward-an-extension-of-application-deadline-of-the-law-on-naturalization.html Dominican House of Deputies, approved in emergency yesterday Tuesday, October 28, in two readings, the proposed extension of 90 days of the deadline for regularization of those born on Dominican territory from oreign parents in a situation of illegal immigration and not registered with the Civil Registry in order to enable such persons to register and regularize their immigration status covered by the law 169-14 and its Regulations [decree 250-14]

At first reading, the vote was 96 votes for and 1 vote against and obtained 100% of the vote in second reading. Recall that the initial period of application of the law 169-14 expired yesterday Tuesday.

In a letter addressed to Abel Martínez Durán, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, President Medina explained that "the bill that we propose is the result of the conviction of the authorities responsible for implementation of the aforesaid Act [...] Concretely, the Dominican Government has opened 24 offices for the regularization of foreigners, spread across the country and launched a media and advertising campaign to inform immigrants about the need for regulation and the means to achieve it [...] However, the complexity and novelty of the process, have limited appropriate and adequate dissemination of the scope of the rules and benefits of the latter."

In his correspondence, the President Medina appealed to the responsibility of deputies, asking them to understand that this project "only seeks to fully comply with the spirit of justice and order in our State, which inspired the law 169-14," adopted, let us recall it with broad support in both chambers.

Finally, the head of the Dominican State, concluded that "the implementation of these initiatives will be beneficial not only for the people involved, but it is also of a high strategic interest for the Dominican Government in its proper implementation..."

Note that so far only 1,035 people have registered to demand a regulation of birth, in the context of this law...
