Haiti - Economy : Index of Consumer Prices (September 2014)

Benefiting from the decrease in world prices and the availability of some local foods, the Index Consumer Prices (Base 100 in August 2004) has further decelerated in September 2014 with a variation of +0.4% against +0.5% the previous month. However, a certain acceleration was observed at the Annual inflation, which rose from 5.1% in August to 5.3% in September.

The decline of 0.1% of the "Food, Beverages and Tobacco" function that represents more than 50% of the household budget largely explains the monthly decline in inflation recorded in September.

The monthly increase is mostly due to the behavior of other functions such as "Clothing and Textile Shoes" (+0.5%), "Rent Housing, Energy and Water" (+0.3%), "Health" (+0.7%) "Leisure, Entertainment, Education and Culture" (+4.5%) and "Other Goods and Services" (+1.2%).

Note that the increase in "Clothing and Textile Shoes" index result of higher products such as: T-shirt man (+ 1.1%), shorts (+0.5%), dress (+0.8%), manufacture of clothing (+0.5%), shoes and tennis (+0.8%) and sandals (+0.7%).

The increase in "Rent Housing, Energy and Water" index comes only from the change in price of rent housing (+0.3%) and charcoal (+0.7%), all prices of other products being stagnated.

The inflationary pressure of the "Health" index is related to fees paid to physicians (+1.1%) and hospitalization (+1.2%).

The price increases of portable devices (+1.6%), TV (+0.8%) and especially of tuition fees (+8.9%) are responsible for the observed acceleration in the index "leisure, Entertainment, Education and Culture".

Finally, the rise in the index "Other Goods and Services" is mainly due to higher prices of toilet soap (+1.6%), shampoo (+1.6%), perfume, eau de toilette (+2.0%), powder toilet (+3.7%), the body cream (+1.8%) and other hair care products (+1.6%).
