Haiti - Economy : The construction of the public market of Fontamara is progressing

The Office of Communication of the Ministry of Planning and External Cooperation (MPCE) informed us that 25% of the construction work of the public market of Fontamara, commonly called "Marché Poisson" are already completed. Let us recall that these important works started on April 1, implemented by the MPCE, are funded by the Treasury through the PetroCaribe funds.

This large public market built on a plot of over 15,000 m2 will have an area of about 7,000 m2 and will include 300 stalls. A parking space of nearly 4,000 m2 of a capacity of about 140 cars will also be equipped with parking for disabled people and parking for motorcycles.

This new market will also have administrative areas, cafeteria of 4 rooms, sanitation, safe warehouses, platforms for loading and unloading, a fuel tank, a water tank, waste containers, emergency stairs and ramps at each floor. A modern beach will also be arranged.

It is planned to build a dock on the coast, near the market, to the benefit of the area fishing boats. The Prime Minister, Laurent Lamothe, also Minister of Planning reiterates on this occasion "his commitment to supervise the entire population, particularly the most disadvantaged while adopting the preferential option for the poor."
