Haiti - Social : «The fight against discrimination is enormous» dixit Marie Carmelle Auguste

Marie Carmelle Rose Anne Auguste, former Minister Delegate in Charge of Human Rights and the Fight against extreme poverty participated at the Royal Oasis hotel at a workshop on discrimination, organized by the LGBT organization "KOURAJ" on the theme "The fight against discrimination, what the law says ?"

This workshop aimed to strengthen the fight against discrimination and advocate for respect in Haiti, of the rights of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) "one of the deepest concerns of the government" according to Minister Augustus which in her intervention advocated for an inclusive society where the rights of all citizens without distinction, are respected.

She recalled that through the mechanisms established since the coming to power of President Martelly, the government has made of the inclusion and the fight against all forms of discrimination the ideological basis of its social and economic policy. "The fight against discrimination is enormous," she said convinced that it is necessary "to change attitudes and to defeat the continuing effect of centuries of prejudice."

This workshop want to be the starting point of a consultation phase with all actors in the field of human rights, said Charlot Jeudy, President of the KOURAJ organization.

He wanted to emphasized that "the issue of homosexuality and its recognition also arises through youth, and families." He thinks that should not be deny the consequences for a young to assert his homosexuality or trans-sexuality whether in the family, friendly or school. He also denounced the behavior deemed discriminatory, shown to certain citizens because of their sexual orientation.
