Haiti - Dominican Republic : Demonstration front the Consulate of Haiti

Since Tuesday, a police contingent was stationed front the Consulate of Haiti located Calle Juan XXIII (Higuey), where dozens of Haitians demonstrate to demand the delivery of their passports.

Lunoeh Rolliere, Spokespeople of Haitians, said that it's been over 5 months they have made their passport application, for which they have paid US $ 110 and they still have not got them. Pointing out that they are there to work and do not want to be illegal. He demands that the Government of Haiti deliver their documents, to enable them to regularize their immigration status, while the regularization program normally ends in late May, 2015. Warning that if the Consulate of Haiti, did not deliver their documents, they will manifest in large numbers to the diplomatic headquarters. The Consul did not want talk with the local press on this issue.

Recall that Thursday 22 January, Ambassador Fritz Cinéas in an interview with journalist Juan Bolivar Diaz, on Tele Antillas network, recognized the existence of the delay. Explaining that many offices had not been able to be opened in the Dominican capital where demand is the most important, in particular for economic reasons.

"We initially thought that the documents could be delivered within 15 to 20 days, but we were unable to meet demand. It was a miscalculation on our part to believe that we could provide these documents in such a short time," indicating that requests are sent to Haiti, from where passports are issued. Indicating that it takes time because the Haitian services must also meet national demands, which are dramatically increasing for several months.

For its part, the Haitian Diaspora in the Dominican Republic continues to request the replacement of the Ambassador, Cinéas, by another diplomat, more dynamic, which should according to it, start with a sustainable and urgent transformation in the Embassy of Haiti in the Dominican Republic.
