Haiti - Politic : Paul Evans discusses elections with the OAS

Thursday, Prime Minister, Evans Paul had a working meeting with a delegation from the Organization of American States (OAS) conducted by Frédéric Bolduc, the Special Representative of the OAS in Haiti.

From the outset, Evans Paul expressed the willingness of the Government, when the electoral machine will really set in motion, to set up a committee, which will be composed of all the actors involved in the electoral process, with a mission to prove to our international partners the reliability of the process. "My wish is that we succeed in overcoming this period of instability in the best possible conditions."

The Prime Minister took the opportunity to present the new Ministry of electoral matters, as proof of the will of the Haitian government, to facilitate the work of the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) administratively "I have no fear, I am confident that the elections will be held as scheduled, and players will find themselves in it. Currently we are trying to think about the political financing mechanisms. We intend to consult, for this purpose, all the players in this sense."

On the sensitive issue of Constitutional reform, Prime Minister Paul affirmed "that the context is too fragile to try to touch the mother-Law. You can always assess the possibility of reaching an amendment, but it is for the 50th Legislature to address such issues."

Furthermore, the OAS representatives promised to share with the Prime Minister the results of a study conducted by the organization, on the problem of identification of Haitians living in the Dominican Republic.
