On Monday, Prime Minister Evans Paul, following the resignation of Minister Jean François Thomas, proceeded to the installation of the new holder of the portfolio of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Rural Development (MARNDR), the agronomist Fresner Dorcin, previously Secretary of State for Plant Production.

In his speech the Prime Minister declared "Agriculture is a vital sector of national life, the promoter sector of rural and urban masses, the sector par excellence of the Haitian economy. The Minister Dorcin, can thus rely on my support for the continuation of the process of modernization of our agriculture to achieve an improvement in farmers' income; which will allow us to ensure food security for all, with a strong environmental protection concern."

Fresner Dorcin, 47, has long experience in the agricultural sector in Haiti, both public and private. Secretary of State for Plant Production since 2011, he has been able to attract private investment in the sector. To his credit, he has thirty open cases for a total of over 300 million US dollars. It has a recognized interest in the approximation of agriculture and tourism through agro-tourism. He is particularly interested in finding markets for agricultural products, both locally and internationally, his dynamism and knowledge of the ministry as well as the current records will facilitate the monitoring in the orientations of the Government's agricultural policy.
