Haiti - Politic : Towards an economic pact for growth and employment...

On Monday, Prime Minister Evans Paul, met with members of the Economic Forum, composed of the main professional associations and Chambers of commerce of the Haiti business sector including : the American Chamber of Commerce in Haiti (AMCHAM), the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Haiti (CCIH), the Association of Industries of Haiti (ADIH), the CFHI, the Maritime Association of Haiti (AMARH) and the Professional Association of Banks (APB).

The discussions focuses among others on the establishment of a partnership between the public and private sectors to create a social climate conducive to holding inclusive elections, honest, free and democratic, as well as creation of programs of employment in urban and suburban areas.

The Head of Government also emphasized the institutionalization of a permanent framework for dialogue, taking into account the close relationship between political stability, encouraging investment, domestic production, economic growth, promotion and protection of local businesses especially in the field of public works and technology transfer, the creation of jobs and improving living conditions.

The members of the Economic Forum, have unanimously expressed their readiness to accompany Prime Minister Paul in the priorities of its mission.

In addition, issues of alternative energy and the production of more megawatts of electricity, the maintenance of an atmosphere of trust between the public and the private, the introduction of fiscal discipline, through the fight against smuggling and tax evasion, have largely been addressed by both parties.

As part of this partnership between the State and the business sector, Evans Paul mentioned the implementation of a "Economic pact for growth and employment, which would be subject to ongoing consultation with all economic social partners including universities."
