Haiti - Politic : Jean Jacques Charles, new EDF National Authorising Officer

On Thursday, Prime Minister Evans Paul proceeded to the installation of the former Minister of Labour and Social Affairs, Jean Jacques Charles, as the position of new National Authorising Officer of the Economic Development Fund (EDF).

Recall that the National Authorising Officer is a senior government official, who works directly with the EU on issues of socio-economic development. It co-manages EDF resources on behalf of the government, as well as resources of the National Indicative Programme (NIP) and those of the Regional Indicative Programme (RIP) of the EDF, allocated to CARIFORUM countries, whose Haiti will hold the rotating Presidency, from 1 July.

As recalled by Prime Minister Paul in his speech "The cooperation with the European Union is beneficial to us in more ways than one. Thanks to this cooperation, we got the road Cap-Haitien-Ouanaminthe, the road Hinche/Port-au-Prince, the irrigation system of Saint Raphael and of Maribahoux, the establishment of EFACAP program in certain departments of the country, timely interventions in the sectors of coffee, mango and fish. One can also mention the support programs to the private sector within the CEDA (fashion, handicraft production, etc...)"

Evans Paul after having wishing good luck to the New Officer declared "[...] I am confident that through your work, you will strengthen cooperation lines with the European Union. Also, I encourage you to set up a functioning administrative system, which will increase the country's absorption capacity of the support of the European Union and help to a better coordination to promote the revival of the national economy and the full economic and social development of the country and the population in particular [...] You have work to do. Do your work with foresight and a sense of consensus that characterizes this Government. By adopting this policy, I am sure you will get real results."
