Haiti - FLASH : The Dominican Republic closed its 5 consulates in Haiti

According to the spokesman of the Dominican Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Chancellor Andrés Navarro, ordered this Wednesday, March 4, 2015, the temporary closure of all consular missions in Haiti, due to the constants aggressions that have occurred in recent days against these diplomatic endowments.

In a note addressed to his counterpart Duly Brutus, the Chancellor Navarro clarified that the attacks suffered by the Dominican missions in Haiti has prevented the normal operation of consular work. He says before the inability to obtain the necessary security for the staff working in the five consulates in Haitian territory "the Foreign Ministry has decided to temporarily close them until the administration of President Michel Martelly, provide the assurance of adequate protection."

A decision that will complicate some approaches for individuals and businessmen, including for visa applications and other useful consular services, both to Haitian citizens and Dominican nationals living in Haiti.
