Haiti - Economy : Industrial parks, levers of economic recovery

The last quarters of 2010 should see concretizing the projects of industrial Parks for the area of the Cap Haitien and the zone of Port-au-Prince. With that will be added the increase in capacity of the Parc Sonapi in the capital which should be able soon to offer a greater production capacity thanks to the repair of 3 buildings and 4 new in construction.

It's been several months since the studies are in progress. Koios Report has identified twenty sites and recommends 3, among which 2 were selected by the Haitian government in the north, between Limonade and Trou du Nord. At this step, further feasibility studies will determine the final place of the future industrial park of North whose funding is provided, as envisages it, the agreement of principle signed in Haiti between the Haitian Government, the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the U.S. Government and the Korean company Hansoll. Through this agreement, Haiti is committed to building a first park, which will be financed by the IDB and Hansoll which will be the first tenant. The U.S. in turn will contribute to energy production and construction of 12,000 housing units in the region.

10 km north of Port-au-Prince, a second industrial park is expected to extend over 220 hectares. It will generate tens of thousands of jobs for the area of relocation Corail Cesselesse. An agreement was signed in Washington on Sept. 20 between the Haitian Government, the International Finance Corporation (financial arm of the World Bank) who agrees to finance the construction, the IDB and the U.S. Government are financing the planning study. This time the SAE-A Korean company that agrees to rent the space and create nearly 10,000 jobs to run.

The United States also promised a contribution to the energy level and the construction of 10,000 homes in surrounding communities.
