Haiti - Agriculture : Import ban on fruits and vegetables Dominicans is not respected 24/03/2015 10:49:11
Following the temporary ban on imports of a variety of fruits and vegetables Dominicans https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-13429-haiti-flash-ban-on-imports-of-fruit-and-vegetables-dominicans.html , in order to avoid that Haiti is contaminated by the "Mediterranean Fruit Fly", which has been detected in an agricultural area near Punta Cana airport in the Dominican Republic; Monday Michel Chancy, Secretary of State for Animal Production indicated that this decision was based on a preliminary report. He clarified that currently, Haitian, Dominican and US experts continued to assess the situation and that these experts were working on a second report indicating that the population will be informed of the final decision of Haiti, following analysis of this second report. Recall that the fruits banned from import are : Lemon, orange, chadeque, grapefruit, mandarin, lack, apple, pear, grape, mamey (Mamey sapote) karambole, breadfruit, "lam veritab", "sapotiy", pomegranate, "kachiman" (Annona reticulata), cherry, soursop, avocado, coffee, papaya, "kayimit", watermelon, melon, pomegranate, banana and "Fig Bannan". The vegetables banned are : Tomato, eggplant, sweet and hot pepper, cucumber and other fruits and vegetables of the same family. Ban or not Monday, Haitian merchant in border binational markets, continued normally and freely to buy these fruits and vegetables subjects of temporary import ban, by bouettes and trucks.
