Thursday, President Michel Martelly, accompanied, among others by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Duly Brutus, participated in the CARICOM/USA Summit which was held at the University of the West Indies (UWI) in Kingston, Jamaica.

In his speech, the Head of State has focused on citizen security face the transnational security threats in the region "We are seeing a constant increase in drug trafficking, money laundering activities, human trafficking and light weapons as well as cyber crime at the level of the hemisphere," stressing that the Caribbean region was not immune to these threats.

President Martelly has invited all countries in the region to work together to combat this serious threat of transnational security "While criminal groups forge alliances between them, we need to strengthen our ties of cooperation by establishing a system of sharing within the Caribbean as a tool to prevent and defeat transnational organized crime as well as international terrorism formal networks."

The Head of State by concluding, made an impassioned appeal for solidarity among nations of the Caribbean, emphasizing on the necessity to be able to rely one over the other, "no matter the size or capacity of the country, no nation can win this battle alone."

Also on the sidelines of the Summit, Michel Martelly met with his US counterpart Barack Obama.

The who returned to Port-au-Prince in the evening, is scheduled to visit on Friday, with a high-level delegation to Panama City to attend the 7th Summit of the Americas (10-11 April). On the sidelines of the summit, many meetings are planned among others with the Dominican authorities and US President Barack Obama.
