Thursday, Godson Orélus, the Director General of the National Police of Haiti (PNH), in the presence of Pierre Richard Casimir, the Minister of Justice and Public Security, Me Jacquenet Oxilus, Secretary of State for Justice, Me Kherson Darius Charles, Chief Public Prosecutor of Port-au-Prince and members of the High Major State of National Police proceeded to the installation of the Divisional Commissioner Jean Gardy Muscadin as the new Director of the Prison Administration (DAP).

Jean Gardy Muscadin replaces in this position the main Commissioner Marjorie Saint-Jean who spent two and a half years at the head of this institution, operating uner the PNH. She said to go with a light heart, satisfied with her achievements in this institution, which manages more than 11,000 prisoners distributed in 17 detention centers across the country.

The new Director promised to bring a new breath to the prison administration and pledged to work in compliance with the law and internal regulations of the institution he leads.

During the installation ceremony, the Minister Casimir welcomed the concrete results achieved in the framework of "Operation Punch" against prolonged pretrial detention. Recalling that this operation launched on March 2 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-13297-haiti-justice-operation-punch.html , despite the lack of resources, has so far ensured to judge in particular in the jurisdiction of Port-au-Prince, nearly 250 people allowing the release of several prisoners held in prolonged pretrial detention and others awaiting sentencing judgment.
