Saturday, the Haitian theater troupe "Les Rescapés" has successfully completed the first week of its tour, which led it successively in Anse-a-Pitre, Belle Anse, Jacmel, Miragoâne, Petite Rivière des Nippes and Port-au-Prince.

From May 4 to June 5, the actors of the troupe "Les Rescapés" will stop in 22 communes of the country, to present interactive pieces that speak of communal violence, electoral and against women and the trafficking of children in border areas.

"The welcoming was great and the message was well received. This is the first time in Haiti and people discover just the existence of the theater-forum, yet they reacted as if it was part of their daily lives. The atmosphere was great, they expressed open heart and have made strong proposals to try to resolve the issue of child protection in Haiti," declared Luxon Zidor, the director of the troupe.

"The theater-forum, also known as the 'theater of the oppressed' is an interactive exercise where the audience up on stage to propose solutions to problems. The play ends dramatically. Then we resumes the play from the stratand the public is invited to intervene to prevent the tragedy from happening. Spectators become 'spect-ACTORS'. They attend and play at the same time. This is to change the course of history, and thus to provide, at their respective levels, solutions to life's problems," explained. Zidor, himself an actor of the troupe.

This tour is conducted in partnership with UNESCO and the Ministry of Culture in order to develop a culture of peace and non-violence and community cohesion particularly among young people in vulnerable neighborhoods.
