Haiti - Reconstruction : Things are moving in the commune of Bizoton

On Thursday, the European Union (EU) with the Boards of Communal Section (CASEC) of Bizoton, the Association of Progressive Citizens for advancement and Country Reconstruction (ACPARP) and César Foundation for the Weak of Haiti (FCPFH), has launched the project "drinking water supply and sanitation in the localities of Fonds-Brache, Grand Caille and Bel-Air", funded to the tune of almost 437,000 euros by EU.

This project, which will be deployed in the commune of Bizoton in the West department, over a period of 30 months, will initially will allow the people of the municipalities of Fonds-Brache, Grande Caille and Bel Air to have improved access to better water quality through sanitation of the immediate environment of the source of Chaud'eau which serves all of these localities.

This project will also strengthen the local authorities and organizations of civil society in the region, encouraging them to consult further on the issues of sustainable development, that fall within the communal level.

During the launching ceremony, Ambassador Javier Nino Perez declared "The EU promotes an inclusive development approach, that is to say that concretely improves the living conditions of the most vulnerable segments of the population by providing essential services such as drinking water," adding "The contribution of local authorities and civil society organizations is also important because it helps to reflect on development issues at the local level, by including, in a democratic way, the concerns of communities that are primarily concerned."

Many activities that will benefit 3,000 people in total, will be implemented as part of this project. Thus the catchment works of the source of Chaud'eau will be made and four water distribution kiosks built. Other actions, such as securing the perimeter of capture, the planting of 10,000 seedlings in three gullies, the construction of 120 family latrines, the training of beneficiary families, the organization of participatory project management training sessions, in community leadership and good governance for the benefit of 30 representatives of CSOs (civil society organizations) and 7 local officials, are also planned.
