Haiti - Social : The traffic of Haitians intensifies at the border

Military sources reported that border guards have arrested and repatriated to Haiti, this weekend, a group of 67 Haitian immigrants, as they entered illegally on the territory of Dominican Republic

Colonel Joaquin Cruz, commander of the Tenth National Army battalion in the province of Dajabon (North West) told the media that the immigrants were planning to stay illegally in the country, adding that during this operation, six drivers of buses and motorcycles were also arrested while transporting the Haitians. He also recalled that on Friday, members of the armed forces intercepted another transport of 21 Haitian immigrants with a little girl of eleven months.

Dominican organizations working on the North West border indicated that the traffic of undocumented Haitians had increased alarmingly since the earthquake that struck Haiti.

Earthquake or fear of social explosion in the upcoming elections, poverty and threats to their lives, the flight of our compatriots to the Dominican Republic [and others] is a true cry of alarm. The Haitian government refuses to see on these acts of despair, yet clear, symptom of a social deterioration that is worsening.
