Haiti - Les Cayes : The Public University of the South (UPSAC) joins CORPUCA

Regional Conference of Rectors, Presidents and Directors of Academic Institutions members of the Agence universitaire de la Francophonie in the Caribbean (CORPUCA) extends its network of members. On the occasion of its 8th General Assembly, 27 and 28 September last, the Office of CORPUCA has formally endorsed the decision to expand its network to a thirteenth University, Public University of South Cayes (Université Publique du Sud aux Cayes UPSAC).

The UPSAC was founded in 1999 by the Haitian government in order to decentralize public higher education in Haiti. Thus, UPSAC's mission is to train professionals, managers, entrepreneurs and researchers in the Southern Department. It has about 1,500 students in three sectors: education science, administrative sciences and legal sciences. Since its founding, UPSAC has trained over 1200 professionals.

It was created by the Haitian three public universities, each located in a town of Department: The Public University of South Cayes (UPSAC), the Public University of North Cap-Haitien (Université Publique du Nord au Cap-Haïtien UPNCH) and Public University of Gonaïves in Artibonite (Université Publique de l’Artibonite aux Gonaïves UPAG).

At the meeting of the authorities of the AUF held in Montreal from 29 to 31 May 2010, the Council gave the accession of these three universities to the Agency for a probationary period of 5 years.
