Haiti - Health :

Norman Nutriset society and its partner the Institute for Research and Development (IRD) announced the free availability and online for 28 developing countries, of their patents on Plumpy'nut, a paste ultranutritive used to fight against malnutrition. One way to cut the grass under the feet of U.S. organizations that have brought to justice in the United States, accusing them of blocking competition.

The "Plumpy'nut" was born in 1998 to meet the nutritionist André Briend of IRD and Engineering Lescanne Michel, who managed to develop a process for coating of vitamins and minerals in a matrix fat-containing proteins, all of which are easily absorbed by the bodies of vulnerable young children.

The two partners [Nutriset and IRD] has decided to allow those who wish to produce freely this therapeutic formula using the same methods and same method of preparation. Beneficiaries will be allowed to distribute products produced under their own brand. Only requirement: that the majority stake held by the operator is a company originating in developing countries.

"We want to help countries facing the scourge of malnutrition to build their own self-nutrition", said a spokesman for the IRD. The institute will receive 1% of revenues from these agreements as it does already with Nutriset to finance part of his research.

Talks are already underway, such as Haiti and Sudan. Nutriset could invest in these projects with the help of the French Agency of Development, which "temporarily protect this market too capitalist tendencies"
