Haiti - Humanitarian : Solidarity Fund for future returnees

Thursday at a press conference, Emmanuel Menard, Director General of the National Old Age Insurance Office (ONA) announced the creation of a solidarity fund (FONDSONA) of more than 2 million gourdes, collected through a voluntary contribution of employed on their salary to assist the Haitians, which will soon be repatriated from the Dominican Republic.

Emmanuel Menard clarified that the ONA intended target this assistance to the elderly and children, while specifying that the ONA will not intervene directly in the field, but in support to the national institutions working in the social field. owever, he said the move was punctual and that if a long-term support must happen, there was for the moment, no plan envisaged to ONA.

Very proud of the generous gesture of its employees, the Director General of ONA hoped that other organized structures of society, follow the example of the ONA.
