18 Haitian migrants were repatriated by the Coast Guard of the United States after being intercepted on a vessel, near Palm Beach Gardens, Florida last week.

Saturday, the Coast Guard has informed that a Customs and Border Protection intercepted a 28-foot boat suspected of smuggling of migrants and detained a suspected smuggler. On board the boat in addition to Haitians, there were nationals of Jamaica and the Dominican Republic "This deliberate attempt to smuggle illegal migrants into south Florida unnecessarily put lives at great risk, including those of young children," declared Timothy Cronin, of the US Coast Guard.

Since October 1, 2014 the U.S. Coast Guard 7th District estimates that 2,245 Haitians,2,806 Cubans and 469 Dominicans have attempted to illegally migrate via the sea. These figures represent the total interception in the Straits of Florida, the Caribbean and the Atlantic, said the Coast Guard.
