Haiti - Petit-Goâve : Phase II of the Urban Development Project

Significant activity have been carried out as part of Phase II of the development project and urban development in Petit-Goâve. This project funded by the European Union and implemented by "Welthungerhilfe" (German Agro Action) and "Help-Hilfe Zur Seibsthilfe" with the support of the Town Hall of Petit-Goâve, making great strides :

256 linear meters of gabionade were built along the river Desvignes and 950 linear meters of cleaning performed in order to protect the population against the risk of flooding during the rainy season;

Contracts will be signed shortly with firms that have won tenders for the construction of the road from the locality of Fort-Liberté, the water supply system of the city and construction of dallot on the National Road# 2;

MPF, a microfinance company and COPPPEG, a fishing cooperative, will receive a financial grant;

A call for projects for the production of charcoal briquettes will be launched shortly, with a view to selecting a third business to which grants will be awarded;

4 micro-enterprises have been created or strengthened in the project areas and are already in full operation. This is "CELO" manufactures of concrete block vibrated and "LB enterprise" specializing in the treatment of sand, "GMW construction" and "FERROCTEH". In return, these companies have signed service contracts with "Welthungerhilfe" as suppliers, as part of self-construction and repair of houses for displaced families in downtown and Fort-Liberté. 48 houses will be built, 60 others repaired and 80 workers will be recruited to carry out the work;

Finally, in collaboration with the administrative and technical management of the inter-communality des Palmes (DATIPP), municipal engineering executives were trained in the development of techniques.
