Haiti - Dominican Republic : President Martelly met with the OAS delegation

Sunday, the mission of the Organization of American States (OAS) responsible for collecting on the ground, information on the situation of Haitian migrants returning from the Dominican Republic, began its work in Haiti, after a 2-day visit in neighboring Republic. The mission met behind closed doors, several organizations of civil society including: The National Network for the Defense of Human Rights (RNDDH), the Support Group for Refugees and Repatriates (GARR), the Zile Foundation represented by former Consul Haiti to the Dominican Republic, Edwin Parison, the Episcopal Justice and Peace Commission (CE-JILAP), the Collective of December 4 and the Economic Forum. These organizations have provided the OAS delegation data on the migratory situation that risks according to them, lead to a humanitarian crisis.

Monday at the National Palace, the President Michel Martelly had a working session with the OAS delegation https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-14502-haiti-dominican-republic-end-of-the-oas-mission-in-dr-beginning-in-haiti.html "I met with the OAS Commission to reiterate my concerns expressed on 3 July in Barbados at the CARICOM Summit https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-14409-haiti-migration-crisis-offensive-and-critical-speech-of-president-martelly.html I asked the firm intervention of the international community to bring the Dominican Republic to negotiate the terms of repatriation. I took the opportunity to remind the Haiti commitment to peaceful resolution of disputes in the Haitian-Dominican relations," declared the Head of State.

The mission also met with the Prime Minister, Evans Paul, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Lener Renauld, and other cabinet ministers.

Lener Renauld indicated "I first presented an overview starting from the genesis of the crisis. Once again, we stated that we will not receive in Haiti of Dominicans deprived of their nationality [...] We have provided documents, figures, photos and video about stateless sent to Haiti," saying the government recorded a lot of cases of Dominican deprived of their citizenship who entered Haiti.

Assertions ar enough from those of Edwin Parison, of the Zile Foundation, who said yesterday that there was a lack of evidence and documentation on the Haitian side on the issue of stateless "The country was not prepared to receive this flux of migrants [...] When we speak of statelessness, it would be necessary to come with specific cases [...] So far, at the Zile Foundation, we recorded only two stateless people sent to Haiti"...

Delegates of the OAS who must leave Haiti this Tuesday, July 14, must visit a site in Anse-à-Pitres, where are received the Haitians returning from the neighboring Republic, who live on this site under difficult conditions.
