Haiti - News Flash : 10 dead and three missing in bad weather this weekend

Provisional Assessment, at least 10 people died and three others missing in Port-au-Prince and its region after heavy rains and storms that hit the mountains, flowing streams of water on the capital. Many roads are impassable.

Eight people were found dead in Port-au-Prince, two others in the locality of Fontamara (refugees living in camps) said Nadia Lochard of the Civil Protection in Port-au-Prince. Among the 10 victims included two girls of two years and an infant of 11 months [2 children died in a mudslide at Carrefour].

The National Meteorological Centre has issued flood warnings for the entire southern peninsula of Haiti until Tuesday. "The risks of rivers overflow aare real, especially in areas where heavy rains have fallen in recent days. To this end, the National Meteorological Center (Centre National de Météorologi CNM) in conjunction with the Permanent Secretariat of Risk Management and Disaster (Secrétariat Permanent de Gestion des Risques et des Désastres SPGRD) are launching a warning for residents across the southern peninsula of Haiti, parts of Central and West with soils already oversaturated or about to be saturated to take precautions against the activities of rain and thunderstorms and possible flash floods in river. Consequently, these populations must remain vigilant and observe all safety practices in case of thunderstorms, rain may cause flooding of river, flooding and landslides.
