Haiti - Politic : Japan donated $30M for the construction of 2 bridges

Wednesday, as part of bilateral cooperation Japan-Haiti, Ambassador of Japan accredited to Haiti, Katsuyoshi Tamura and Lener Renaud Minister of Foreign Affairs, signed a grant agreement of 30 million US dollars [the most important contribution of Japan in one agreement], for the Construction of the bridge of Croix-des-Missions recently closed due to its collapsing [since reopened] https://www.icihaiti.com/en/news-14947-icihaiti-flashthe-bridge-of-croix-des-missions-sags-10-cm-update-3h25-pm.html and that of the road #9, which provides access to the national road #1 damaged in the earthquake of January 2010.

Katsuyoshi Tamara said that the construction of these structures will facilitate transportation between the north and south of the metropolitan area and the protection of populations against flooding, of the communes concerned "This project is the best post-earthquake response of the government of Japan to the recovery of the country's basic infrastructure. The Government of Japan strongly requests the Haitian government effective cooperation in the effective implementation of these bridges construction."

The Chancellor Renaud thanked the Japanese government for its support to improving the living conditions of Haitian citizens and to the country's development and stressed "This is a significant contribution to the achievement of strategic objectives and priority actions of the administration Martelly/Paul as part of the reconstruction of Haiti."
