Haiti - Social : Demonstration of ex-employees of Teleco 27/10/2010 15:25:28
One hundred ex-employees of the former public phone company Teleco, now NATCOM, since the purchase of 60% of the capital by the company Vietnamese Viettel in April 2010, protested this morning front the Ministry of Social Affairs at the Avenue Charles Summer. The former ex-employees were protesting against the privatization of the telephone company and demanded payment of unpaid wages for 36 months. The Haitian National Police, supported by Miniustah were on the scene, no incidents were reported. The protesters ended their movement of claims at 12:16pm. Remember that this purchase had already raised strong criticism at the time, Teleco has over 5,000 employees, whose majority did not make any more act of presence. M Nnguyen Khac Chung, a representative of the company Viettel had indicated that his intention was to make NATCOM the first telephone operator in Haiti. Regarding the fate of employees, he promised to keep the remaining employees, if they are able to adapt to the new requirements which are essential in the sector of Telecommunication, throughout the world. As for the fate of the ex-employees, their fates were not mentioned and did not seem to be the responsibility of new buyers, but that of Haitian government, which is shareholder with 40% of this new company.
