Yesterday Wednesday, on the sidelines of a meeting with civil society organizations, Vincent Degert the new Ambassador of the European Union (EU) asked about his possible concerns about next Sunday's elections, responded "If you present me someone who has no fear for Sunday, I'll be happy to meet him."

While welcoming the corrective action taken by the Provisional Electoral Council on the recommendations of the European observation mission, he shows himself cautious as to the result of such measures, stressing that "this is not an absolute guarantee."

Deploring the excessive number of presidential candidates and the high number of agents, he doubts of the proper functioning of the rotation formula by draw proposed by the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-15469-haiti-news-electoral-zapping.html

Stressing that 80 European international observers will be deployed on the ground on Sunday in the 10 departments, he nevertheless remains optimistic about a voter turnout higher than that of 9 August.

Note that the financial contribution of the European Union on the Haitian elections, is €5 million.
