Haiti - Elections D-1 : Members of the Core Group encourage Haitians to vote

In a statement, Sandra Honoré, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations and members of the international community in Haiti represented within the Core Group (the Ambassadors of Brazil, Canada, the European Union, France, Spain, the United States of America, and the Special Representative of the Organization of American States) "Salute the holding of the forthcoming presidential, legislative and local elections on October 25.

Sunday's vote will allow citizens to freely choose their representatives at national and municipal level. These elections are an important step towards the consolidation of stability necessary to meet current and future challenges.

The Core Group recognizes the efforts of national authorities in the organization and the support to the process, particularly those of the Provisional Electoral Council and the National Police of Haiti, for the implementation of measures to facilitate a peaceful vote , inclusive and transparent Sunday.

It is of the utmost importance that all necessary measures are taken to prevent violence and intimidation and to punish all those responsible.

The Core Group invites all Haitians to exercise their constitutional right by choosing their representatives and thus shape the future of their country by voting peacefully. Members of the Core Group will continue to extend their full support to efforts to strengthen stability and consolidation of democratic institutions in Haiti."
