Haiti - Literary : Tour of the Haitian-American poet Georges Danielle in Haiti

As part of cultural exchanges to promote mutual understanding between Haiti and the United States through poetry, the Office of Public Affairs of the Embassy of the United States of America informs the general public, poets and poetry lovers in particular that the Haitian-American poet Georges Danielle will tour Haiti until November 2, 2015.

During her stay, Ms. George will lead poetry workshops for high school students, students of universities and actors at Pyepoudre Cultural Center, the Cultural Center Anne Marie Morisset, and for members of the Reading Club of the Documentation Centre of the US Embassy on the African-American literature and American literature in general. She will also held workshops for members of English Conversation Club of the American Corner located to the FOKAL and for advanced reading class students at Haitano-American Institute.

Among the published books of poetry of Ms Goerges : "Maroon" (Curbstone Press, 2001) and "The Dear Remote Nearness of You" (to be published by Editions Barrow Street Press, in 2016). Her poems have been published in numerous magazines and literary publications including in : "The Boston Globe", Transition, "World Literature Today", "The Caribbean Writer", "Street", "Salamander", "Poeisis, Black Renaissance Noire", "The American Poetry Review". Ses poems were also reproduced in many anthologies and her essays and articles have been published including in "The Women’s Review of Books", "Sojourner", "Encarta Africana", "The Boston Haitian Reporter"...

Among the academic and literary distinctions that she recently received one can quote among others : Massachusetts Cultural Council Artist Fellowship in Poetry (2014) ; Massachusetts Cultural Council Finalist in Poetry (2012) ; Lesley University Faculty Development Grants et Black Metropolis Research Consortium Fellowship / Andrew W. Mellon Grant (2013).
