Haiti - Economy : In October, inflation keep rising

During the month of October, a slight slowdown of inflation in monthly basis was recorded. The level of the Index General of Consumer Prices (base 100 in August 2004) increased from 245.7 to 248.2, an inflation of 1.0%, against 1.2% the previous month. Conversely, some acceleration was observed in annualized inflation, with an increase of 11.7% in October, against 11.3% in September.

Functions that have contributed most to this monthly increase of 1.0% mainly "Food, Beverage & Tobacco" (+ 0.9%), "Clothing, Textiles and Footwear" (+ 1.7%), "Housing Rent, Energy & water "(+ 1.2%)," Planning, Equipment and Housing Maintenance "(+ 1.8%) and" Other Goods and Services "(+ 2.1%).

The progression of the "Food, Beverage & Tobacco" function which represents more than 50% of household budgets especially comes from

millet prices (+ 3.3%) and wheat flour (+ 0.8%), spaghetti (+0.8 %) of corn flakes (+ 4.2%), beef meat (+ 1.8%), pork (+ 1.7%) and goat (+ 1.3%), poultry (+ 2.5%), eggs (+ 2.0%), avocado (+ 3.8%), bananas (+ 4.5%), the pumpkin (+ 3.6%), the kazoo (+ 4.1%), green peas (+ 2.3%), dry peas (+ 1.1%), eggplant (+ 4.3%), cabbage (+ 4.2%), onion (+ 3.2%), carrots (+ 4.1%), tomato (+ 3.4% ), yams (+ 3.4%), the malanga (+ 3.2%), cassava (+ 3.5%), of potatoes (+ 4.0%) and potatoes (+ 4.6%),  the  true tree (+ 2.4%) and orange (+ 3.3%).

The increase in the "Clothing, Textiles and Footwear" function is mainly due to the increase in products such as tissues (+ 1.7%), suit, jacket Universal (+ 3.9%), shirt (+ 1.8%), trousers man (+ 1.2%), dress (+ 3.9%), making clothes (+ 0.9%) and tennis shoes (+ 1.5%) and sandals (+ 2.1%).

The rental of the accommodation increased by 3.1%, mainly due to the growth of the index "Rent Housing, Energy and Water".

The upward trend of the "Planning, Equipment Maintenance and Housing" function is mainly due to price of : living room furniture (+ 1.2%), dining room (+ 1.4%), the bed (+ 2.0% ), the mattress (+ 2.7%), curtains (+ 3.1%), the tablecloth (+ 2.0%), refrigerator (+ 1.7%), of laundry soap (+ 1.0%) and staff salaries (+ 5.4%).

As for the increase in the "Other Goods and Services" it resulting mainly from rising prices of : Toilet soap (+ 1.0%), toothpaste (+ 4.6%), shampoo (+ 1.9% ), perfume, toilet water (+ 1.5%), toilet powder (+ 7.5%), body cream (+ 2.2%), beauty treatments (+ 2.3%) and shoe cleaning (+ 2.4%).

Other goods and services : 21.1%
