Haiti - Reconstruction : Inauguration of 90 houses, of the Village Project «Ona-ville»

On Thursday, President Michel Martelly, in the presence of the Head of Government Evans Paul, members of the Ministerial Cabinet, of Émmanuel Ménard, Director General of the ONA, Godson Orélus, Director General of the National Police of Haiti (PNH) and other civil, religious and political figures, proceeded to the official opening of Phase I of the Village Project "Ona-ville". 90 Housing Units (residence and dependence) were rehabilitated in the village over an area of 125.548 square meters. Agents of the National Police of Haiti (PNH) will be the main beneficiaries of these houses ranging in size from three to five bedrooms.

"I congratulate the Prime Minister and the Director General of the ONA (National Old-Age Insurance Office) of having ensured a monitoring allowing to achieve my dream of rehabilitating Ona-ville," declared the Head of State in his speech.

Satisfied, also of the realization of this project, Prime Minister Paul reminded the police officers, like anyone else, have the right to live in good conditions, to be able to proper care their families...

For Godson Orélus, "this is a significant turning point in the lives of police officers," recognizing that since the creation of the PNH "housing has always been a problem in the lives of police officers." The houses will be distributed to the beneficiaries according to the terms set by the General Directorate.

In addition to the rehabilitation of these 90 houses, 3.4 kilometers of paved roads were built. Recreational spaces, particularly a public square of 854 m2, will be made available to the villagers.

"The cap is already set on the extension of the village," said Émmanuel Ménard, who recalled the signing of an MOU between the ONA and the Haitian government for the acquisition of Ona-Ville, an important project, initiated in 2003, allowing police officers to also benefit from social programs. He welcomed, in addition the access to the "Crédit 50" at an interest rate of 0.50% per month whose enjoyed police officers through the ONA.

The President Martelly who is working hard for the improvement of living of PNH officers, announced that another 400 houses will be made available to police in the Village Lumane Casimir.
